Prepping Your Tractor For Summer in Alabama

Prepare Your Tractor for Summer Survival
Hot summer weather can take a toll on your crops, your stamina, and your tractor. A farmer’s work often requires laboring on sweltering summer days, so here are some tips to keep your tractor at its best despite heat waves and the increasingly high “normal” temperatures people are confronting all over the planet.
Fortunately, there are a few proactive steps you can take to help your machinery keep on keeping on, no matter how hot the weather. Check out the following strategies to help your tractor run well when it’s hot. If you’d like more advice or you want to explore tractors for sale, head over to Dowling Tractor Company in Enterprise, Alabama, east of Dothan.
Tend to the Tires
Tires inevitably get hot, thanks to the friction of driving as well from traveling on sun-baked surfaces. Hot temperatures cause the air inside to expand. Use a tire gauge to measure the tire pressure and make sure it conforms to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Incorrectly inflated tires suffer damage and have a shortened lifespan.

Respect Your Radiator
Make sure your cooling system is at 100% function. Flush and replace the fluids in your radiator in compliance with manufacturer recommendations. Check the coolant level frequently, and inspect hoses for damage.
Inspect the grill regularly to make sure it isn’t obstructed by debris. Other components in the front may be prone to blockage as well, such as the AC evaporator. Keep an eye on your temperature gauge and if it overheats, find out what the problem is and resolve it. Other cooling system components to monitor are your radiator cap and your thermostat.
Obey Your Oil Requirements
Old oil or low oil can cause poor lubrication, which can contribute to overheating and ultimately to expensive engine damage. Make sure you’re following appropriate routine maintenance according to your manufacturer.
Work When It’s Cooler
If you can avoid working yourself and your tractor at peak heat, try to do that! Otherwise, do what you can to make it tolerable to operate your tractor by installing shade and climate control. Stay hydrated with cold water and sports drinks, and wear a shade hat. A bandana dipped in ice water has wonderful restorative powers, even if just for a few precious minutes.
